After you have dental implants put in, you need to pay attention to them and have them looked at by your dentist promptly if problems develop. The sooner you have your problem dental implant looked at, the higher the chances will be that the implant can be saved and restored to proper condition.

The following are six signs you need to schedule an appointment to have an existing dental implant looked at by your dentist

Your dental implant feels loose.

Any implant that does not feel secure needs to be looked at as soon as possible. A loose dental implant can occur at any point after implant treatment.

A loose feeling in an implant shortly after dental implants are put in could indicate that osseointegration isn't occurring properly. A loose feeling in an implant that has been in place for a long time could indicate that conditions like osteoporosis are weakening the implant's bond with the jawbone.

Your dentist can diagnose the issue and correct it so that your dental implant feels secure and strong once again.

Your gums are red, swollen, and tender.

Temporary swelling or tenderness in the gums could be nothing. However, prolonged and pronounced redness, swelling, and tenderness around an implant likely indicate implant failure or complications. Your dentist needs to find out why your implant seems to be irritating your gums and correct the problem.

You're having trouble eating.

One of the most significant advantages of implants is that they feel like normal teeth and allow patients to eat normally. If you are having trouble eating because of your implant, then your implant isn't functioning right and needs to be looked at.

Your gums seem to be receding from a dental implant.

Receding gums around an implant could indicate a severe case of gingivitis or another type of infection. This could also be an indication that the bone and gums are no longer holding the implant in place strongly.

You're noticing bleeding from your dental implant.

Bleeding from your dental implant could indicate an infection. While some initial bleeding after your dental implant procedure is normal, this bleeding should stop after your mouth has had a few days to heal.

You need to call your dentist if you experience continued bleeding immediately after the implant procedure or significant bleeding that occurs some time after your dental implants are put in.

You're experiencing a lot of pain at the implant site.

You shouldn't experience pain in your dental implant after your mouth has healed from the initial procedure. Pain developing in your dental implant down the road could indicate an infection or damage to your implant that's harming your mouth.
